Nova Southeastern University – mobilizing interfaith support for 350 janitors in Broward Co. who were terminated for demanding better working conditions.
Fisher Island / Miami Beach Condominiums – organizing interfaith support for janitors, landscapers, restaurant workers, and security guards who work in luxury buildings but lack a living wage and affordable health benefits for their families.
Day Laborers in Cutler Bay – educating and organizing support for day laborers in South Miami-Dade County who consistently face intimidation, threats, and physical violence.
Clergy Delegations to speak with corporate officers for the following campaigns:
Burger King – Immokalee farm workers forced to work in harsh conditions;
The New Sanctuary Movement – organizing the faith community to serve as the prophetic voice on behalf of disenfranchised immigrant families who contribute to this society, yet are threatened with deportation and being separated from their families.
Women's Gatherings – we believe that faith is a powerful component to unionizing struggles. We are in the midst of bringing together women faith leaders to
bring out and/or foster activism among these faith leaders, and
empower and meet the spiritual needs of low-wage organizing women
Public Policy:
Community Benefits Agreement – partnering with organizations to hold real estate developers responsible to employ local residents, to provide them with living wages & benefits for their new construction projects.
Living Wage Campaign– after successfully partnering with organizations to gain a Living Wage in Miami, we are now organizing in other area municipalities, to have them adopt and enforce a living wage ordinance, ensuring fair wages adjusted to the cost of living.
Education:
Labor in the Pulpits / on the Bima / in the Minbar –over 40 local congregations participate in a national program to make the connection between faith and labor over Labor Day Weekend, with several hosting low wage workers as speakers.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – hosted over 400 people for an Interfaith Service and, led by dozens of robed clergy, marched to support condo workers in Miami Beach.
