2007 - 2008 SFIWJ
Highlights
Beginning Monday June 29, SFIWJ has been actively involved in
supporting the families living in the Redland Labor Center. These families
are fighting to keep the camp's school open. The school operates pre-K,
after school, and summer programs in five trailers (all free of charge). The
school board's lease for the land and contract ended on June 30, 2009, and
Director of the Homestead Housing Authority, Edmund Carrera, has
refused to sign the contract. The families of the Redland Center are also
attempting to work with Homestead city officials to get this issue resolved.
Local
CBS4 and Telemundo51 stations have reported on this issue. The
Miami-Herald has also published an article.
